The Vehicle Identifier Section, the last eight characters, tells you when and where the bike was manufactured and the bike's serial number. Another serial number beneath the bottom bracket, aligned parallel to the frame. Some Schwinn bicycles have the unique identifying number on their head tube (which is on the front of the bike). A serial number located on a rear drop out. Some BMX bikes and a few Schwinn bicycles place the serial on the rear dropout.

I have a Giant OCR-C road bike which I purchased from the bike shop owner in 2007. I think it is a 2006 model. The serial number is GA6B054 but I can not find any place to look up these bikes on line by serial number. I am selling the bike and someone asked me which make it is. I don't know what to tell them. The bike shop has gone under so they are not a resource now. I am trying to be very up front and give a fair price. The bike is in very good condition and is well maintained. I am only selling it because the small frame is not suited for me at 5'6'. I bought new Giant Avail from Roswell Bike's in Georgia. They appraised my old bike for about 900.00. I am asking 850.00. Can anyone help me figure out which model of OCR I have?
Vintage bicycle serial number database

I recently bought a bike online and I wanted to make sure it was the bike I paid for. I looked for the serial number on the bottom of the bike and couldn't find it. Where else would they put the serial number on a 24 inch Haro?

This image from the City of Portland police shows the common places for bicycle serial numbers. Note that they are usually stamped and aren't very visible.

Note that one area not shown on this image is the head-tube. That's where my latest bike had it. Otherwise, my bikes all have it in location #4 (bottom of the bottom bracket) or behind the seat post.

Note this posting from Bike Forum which shows the Haro serial number stamped on the bottom bracket.

There is also a registry of Haro bmx serial numbers, which might also help in identifying your bicycle:

This latter registry is particularly useful because it has user-submitted photographs of serial numbers. While the majority are on the bottom bracket, some are stamped very faintly into the rear dropouts.
