Escape Dead Island is the first adventure survival horror game of the Dead Island series. This game was developed by Fatshark and is available for platforms; Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.
Escape Dead Island is third person action adventure game that follows the character Cliff Calo. He has set sail to the island of Banoi to record unexplainable rumored events. From the moment he arrives he realizes something isn’t right.

The combat aspect of Escape Dead Island has an emphasis on stealth and melee combat with a bit of gun action. Players can crouch to sneak up on enemies and kill them from behind or swing at them with a melee weapon to get the enemy to fight back.

Ammo is limited, but silenced pistols and shotguns are available and can be aimed and fired from a third person point of view over the shoulder. The main character is a journalist so the player does carry around a camera and is able to take pictures of important objects in the game environment. Many unrealistic events may seem to occur due to the characters changing mental state. This plays a significant role in the story because things like buildings falling from the sky seem to happen.
Escape Dead Island starts two days before the Banoi Island zombie outbreak. The player is controlling “Kilo Two”, an assistant to the Dead Island protagonist Xian Mei. They are infiltrating a Geopharm facility located on the island of Narapela and kill the mole. They find the facility over run with zombies, but Kilo Two still manages to get a copy of the Geopharm data. He can’t escape the building due to zombies so he hides the flash drive with the data on it before being attacked off screen.
The players now know that Geopharm is responsible for making the zombie virus and are part of Palm Garden Order, a global conspiracy. The mole was teaming up with a hacker terrorist named Charon to expose the PGO by releasing the data. Charon wants to do things differently, he wants to destroy the PGO with their own zombie virus. Six months later Banoi island has kept the news of the outbreak hidden from the outside world.
