One of the really cool things about Fortnite is that you can cross-play across all the above devices, with one exception. This means that you can login on your iPad and play against your friend on a PS4 or Mac. It's probably not going to be an even match---touchscreen controls just aren't as accurate or intuitive as a mouse and keyboard or gamepad---but it's still a great feature.

The only exception to this is PS4 and Xbox One. Sony is stubbornly refusing to allow cross-play with its chief rival, probably because the PS4 has such a huge lead over the Xbox One. Microsoft, for its part, says it would happily allow cross-play (likely for the same reason.)

  If you're a mobile gamer with an Apple device, you can now give gaming's biggest hit of 2018 a spin. And you should---after all, the game is free-to-play.

  What is Fortnite: Battle Royale?

  Fortnite is the biggest gaming phenomenon of 2018. It's a 'battle royale' style game where 100 players drop onto a huge map and then fight to the death with the last player standing winning a Victory Royale. The game is colorful and cartoony, reminiscent of Pixar films, and has no blood or gore. Players drop into the map where they find weapons and gear to help them win the match. As the match progresses, it's constricted by an encroaching storm. If you're caught out in the storm, you die. This pushes players closer and closer together until a final showdown ensues.

  What makes Fortnite different from a game like PUBG is its unique building mechanics. You can build ramps, shelters and sky castles in order to outmaneuver enemies, or sometimes just to escape or gain a moment's respite. It's a very fun game, though new players may find it quite difficult at first. Still, it's free-to-play so you can give it a shot without having to worry about spending money on a game you don't like.

  The mobile version of the game is nearly identical to the console and PC versions, with just a few slight differences in UI and visual cues.

  Which Devices Are Compatible With 'Fortnite' On iOS?

  The following devices are compatible with Fortnite on iOS:

  • iPhone SE
  • iPhone 7 / 7 Plus
  • iPhone 8 / 8 Plus
  • iPhone X
  • iPad Mini 4
  • iPad Air 2
  • iPad 2017
  • iPad Pro

  Anything older than this and you'll be greeted with a message telling you that your device is not compatible. You also can't play on any jailbroken device.

  Where Do I Download The Game?

  You can find the mobile version of Fortnite at the App Store. Here's the link. Since this is no longer an invite-only event, all you need to do is download the game and play.

  However, you'll want to create an Epic Games account as well. This account will then crossover between your iOS devices as well as your Mac, PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
